Hazard Alert: 2 Wildfires Break out in Tuolumne County
Firefighters had double the trouble with the Twist and Jacksonville fires in Tuolumne County. CAL FIRE crews were quick to respond to the call. Crispy brush, tall grasses and oak trees were the main contributor to fueling the fires and threatening surrounding homes. Evacuation Advisories remained through yesterday near Twist and Lime Kiln roads. As of late Monday, both fires have been reported to be 100% contained. The Twist Fire scorched through 180 acres and the Jacksonville Fire charred through 690 acres. The good news, there were not any structures destroyed from either blaze. As a reminder, CAL FIRE recommends keeping your lawn care to a minimum to avoid sparking an accidental blaze.
Fireline’s new report named Tuolumne County, as having the fourth highest percentage of homes in high or extreme wildfire danger in California. The other counties listed in high or extreme risk category risk were: Mariposa, Trinity and Alpine. Los Angeles County has the highest number of homes at risk in the same category. This new risk assessment could directly impact residents trying to obtain homeowners insurance or keep their premiums from going through the roof.
