What to Fix in Your House before Halloween?
Halloween is fast approaching and many of us are busy with working on costumes and decorations. However, you should also consider these Halloween house maintenance tasks before you welcome trick-or-treaters.
Safety is very important, unless you want Halloween to turn into a real horror story. Inspect all your outdoor lights and make sure the walkway, yard and porch are well-lit and accessible for your visitors. If you need to, add some temporary light sources.
To prevent the little ones from tripping on the way to your door make sure there is nothing they can stumble on. Clear all debris from you walkway. The same goes for potted plants and other decorations. It is better to reserve a space for them, where there isn’t too much foot traffic. Kids often don’t use the walkway but go though the yard, so make sure you put away that garden hose.
Make sure to check the railing of your stairs. They should be secure, not shaky or wobbly. This is a good time to deal with any problems, before you have a guest getting injured in the future.
Just like the handrails, stairs should be in good condition and they should be able to handle a lot of kids running up and down. If you have wobbly steps, take the time to fix them and avoid any unpleasant accidents.
Don’t let your Halloween decorations turn into a fire hazard. Place any burning candles and Jack-O-Lanterns out of reach of children and away from your front door. You don’t want them to get knocked down by your little visitors and start a fire. You can even opt out for battery powered candles to be safe.
